Old English Meat Roast - Saturday 9th October 2010

Meat Roast

Tickets for the evening are £9 for adults and £6 for children (aged 5-12) from:

  • Jeff Elder 791214
  • Alan Jeffries 790547
  • Liz Dixon 790243
  • David Hughes 790821

All proceeds go to the maintenance of the Liddington Village Hall and there will be a donation to the Parish Plan.

It's time to initiate a Liddington tradition and what better way than to bring the villagers together before the winter sets in.

All traditions start somewhere and years from now your great-grandchildren will tell that you were there at the very first old English Meat Roast way back in 2010!

We will be roasting sides of a deer, specially shot for the occasion, and local lamb over wood fires. They will be served with local produce and real ale. We will have a vegetarian option. And there will be music and merriment in the evening and, if you still have some, you can let your hair down!

First - The Afternoon

You are welcome in the afternoon to drop by and add a log to the fire for good luck and to sample the ale or enjoy a cup of tea!

From 3pm to 6pm the hall and bar will be open. It's early in the planning yet but we are hoping to have representatives from the local groups to tell you what they are up to, so that should be good fun. A corner of the hall will be dedicated specifically to the emerging Parish Plan and you can have your say.

It's also an opportunity to meet your parish councillors and discuss issues. They have achieved a good deal this past year and will be happy to get your feedback.

Then - The Evening

We kick off at 7:30. It will be dusk by then so the fire should encourage atmosphere and conversation and lots of good will. Oh, and the bar will be well open and the real ale will be flowing and the music will lift your step and  . . . we could go on and on!

Fancy a bit of Line Dancing?

June Rodway (741522) is offering the first session FREE to encourage new members. It's a great way to get fit so give her a call. The next session is on 21 September at 19:00 in the Village Hall.

Didn't we do well?

Liddington villagers did well again this year at the Wanborough Show, especially those in The Green!

Sandra got the Herb Cup and Fiona came second. Fiona also had a first again in Phlox and several awards for other vegetables. Maurice was pipped this year into second for his potatoes. No doubt there will be mutterings in the allotments that Liddington folk did so well!!

And what about Robin - a first for his Scottish Beer. Now that's a vicar we can be proud of!

The show as usual was incredibly well organised and attended and continues to be the highlight event of the area.

Robert Buckland MP

Robert Buckland

Our new MP, Robert Buckland, will be visiting the parish on Friday 1 October 2010. Come along to the Village Hall at 7:30 and meet him. The chair of the Parish Council, Godron Wilson, will chair the session.

Our new MP, Robert Buckland was elected for the first time in May 2010.

A Welshman living in Wiltshire isn't be a bad start! He is involved in several projects around the constituency and on major committees in the House of Commons, especially the Justice Select Committee. I am sure he would welcome input from you. You will find plenty of information on his web site at: http://www.robertbuckland.co.uk and you can blog him there.

You can also follow him on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/RobertBuckland and we will expect a favourable emention after his visit to Liddington!

If you have questions that you would like to raise then please let the Chair of the Parish Council, Gordon Wilson, have your input. You can email Gordon on this link.

We will put the Robert's contact links on a permanent page on the web site so you know where to go if you require help.

News from the Parish Council

Liddington Logo

Some New Initiatives

The councillors have been on a walk-about in the village so see what could be done about litter and refreshing the beds and planting areas. This is now a project so we will have plans in place as the year progresses.

We also started a programmer to communicate with the village regularly. If you are not on our email list why not contact the vice-chair by email now?

Recent News

  • The new logo is on both gates into the village on the B4192 and has the added bonus, as many have noted, in slowing down traffic along that road. This, plus the VAS (vehicle activated sign) fulfils the plan of the PC and we believe it has worked! We will monitor the effect over the summer.

  • Caroline Wilson and Fiona Spillane will take over responsibility for planting the Millenium Garden. Thanks again to Lynda Hughes for doing a first-class job for the past few years.

  • Stephanie Penfold will look after the planting in front of the new villages gates.
