Villagers' Feedback

Crossing the B4192

Mandy Cassavant and other parents in the village are scared to cross the B4192 to get to the playing field.

Support the Parish Council in providing a crossing.

Mandy Cassavant

Dear Councillors

Please could this issue be raised at your next meeting?

As a new parent, I was keen to use our wonderful village facilities.  As you know Village Hall, the Church, local walks, the playing field and the children's play area are all accessed by crossing the B4192.  Although it is a 30mph road, I have been scared at the speed at which traffic comes down the road.  Drivers have been so scared at seeing me and the pram waiting at the path crossing that they have applied brakes in a panic and a ploom of smoke has risen.  Understandably I have become extremely reluctant to get to that part of our village.

Each time I have tried to cross the road I have been scared.  No longer scared for my own personal safety but for my daughter and other villagers.  It has become so bad that friends who have visited have asked that I do not take their children to the facilities alone, as they think it is only a matter of time before there is a tragic accident.  Instead we have to cross with a ratio of one adult per child due to the danger.  I have felt so embarrassed that we have fantastic opportunities for fun and community spirit on our doorsteps but the majority of the village is effectively cut off by the B4192.  It really has become a barricade.

Could we possibly explore the possibility of Swindon Borough Council inserting some form of crossing for the road so villagers and visitors can safely access the heart of the community?   I have copied my email to Maurice Spillane so he can insert it on the website.  Other villagers may wish to support the idea to insert a form of safe crossing.

With many thanks   Mandy Casavant, April Cottage, The Green (and Isabelle Casavant aged 5 months)
