2009 Hash Runners
The Hash Runners were in Liddington on Sunday 7th June.
Why not join them for a run or a walk in Wiltshire?
It started at 11am at The Village Inn with a briefing. Local villagers, Maurice Spillane and David Babbington, designed the trail and earlier that morning it was signposted using flour. The idea is that the runners and walkers start off together and then split up later. They each follow signs, a circle for example means the track could go one of a multiple of paths so the runners have to check out each one. Then two dots show you are on the right track. Arrows and single dots of flour are also used.
The Hash trail from Liddington was up The Street and through the Coombe where a herd of bullocks frightened a few walkers and runners! Then through the deserted farm area and on to the Callas Road. Walkers went left down Callas Hill, around by the pub and through the Church, then across the fields to Ham Road and back to The Village Inn.
The Runners had a more challenging time - into the Liddington Hotel and through the brush beside the road, then out the main gate. The road from here to the B4192 is a bit of a drag. The track up Liddington Hill didn't seem so bad as a lot of height had already been gained. The flour trail continued around the back of the Hill to the stile, then on the path to the right and over the ridge for a wonderful view of Wiltshire. The trail went straight down to the gate from there and by the public path under the M4. What a wonderful run that is! Then back to The Village Inn for a few pints and lunch! And a special well done to Mark who had a cracking run.
It was great to see some new members join at Liddington and they are looking forward to the next Hash.
It's all very civilised and great fun - women, men, any age, children, dogs - so come along and enjoy the experience from a different pub in the area every two weeks!
